The Stateline Casino was a hotel and casino establishment that operated in West Wendover, a town situated on the border between Nevada and Utah in the United States of America. West Wendover is a relatively small city which is part of Elko County, and the city is bisected by the Interstate 80 Business highway.
The owner of Stateline Casino was William ‘Bill’ Smith, who originally opened a small service station on the future site of the casino during the year 1926.
The History of Stateline Casino
Gambling became officially legalised in 1931, which is when Smith decided to begin construction on a hotel and casino which were added on to his original service station. One of the main draw cards of Smith’s Stateline Casino was that it was situated directly on the official border between two states, creating a novel opportunity for guests at the casino to eat a meal in one state and play casino games in another while remaining at the same venue.
The Stateline Casino operated for many years before closing in 1982, after which it reopened just a few years later in 1985. However, the casino was sold in 2002 and renamed and rebranded as the Stateline Nugget. This change did not last long, and the casino was again sold in 2004 to be turned into the current Wendover Nugget Hotel and Casino.
The Wendover Nugget Hotel and Casino
The Wendover Nugget Hotel and Casino became the official replacement for the Stateline Casino, and the hotel and casino is still in operation today. The Wendover Nugget is owned and operated by Mr David Ensign, and the venue opened for business during the year 2004.
The hotel part of the Wendover Nugget Hotel and Casino offers over 500 hotel rooms and suites in total, ranging from deluxe rooms and suites to Jacuzzi suites, bar suites and luxury suites as well. Some of the facilities available for guests at the hotel and casino include swimming pools, hot tubs and a free shuttle service to transport them to various nearby landmarks and attractions.

The Wendover Nugget Casino stands where the original Stateline Casino was once situated, and the new casino spans over 4,410 square metres in total.
